Intersection 3733

It’s easy to distinguish active railroad tracks. They’re always the ones with a mirror finish from the heat and polish of trains repeatedly passing over them. Lesser used tracks have a brownish tone to them, whereas the abandoned ones are orange with enough rust to stain your finger by touching it. Today I skipped over to a very busy track that is a direct line from the train yard a couple miles away and eventually found myself at a very familiar intersection. I know from the experience of getting stopped here numerous times that trains FLY through here at dizzying speeds. Some people feel that staring at the stars gives them a sense of overwelming insignificance. I say stand next to a track with a multi- multi-ton train bulleting by at crazy speeds and tell me how significant you feel.
After my previous comment that “there’s always a bucket or crate” to sit on… well, I guess I was wrong. I had to sit on the gravel (ouch!) to sketch. Let me tell ya, you can’t get comfortable on gravel. For this reason, I kept the session fairly short. After I got home, I reorganized the shapes a bit and exaggerated some elements to, ironically, better represent the scene. Final sketch submitted for your review. Enjoy.
