Last week I started a residency at McColl’s Visual Art Center, and I thought I would really be a superman to get this blog rolling again while there. Since I’m attracted to ugly buildings, I immediately honed in on this structure across the street from the residency and picked it for my next subject; “Jung’s Laundry Cleaners, Est. 1950.” I can only assume that “laundromat” was not a term in vogue in 1950, which is just as well since I’ve already made a post called “Laundromat.”
Speaking of that old post, I was confronted by the owner while taking reference photos to make into watercolors. Funny, but while I was sketching Jung’s, the owner stood at the window staring at me like I was the dumbest thing he’s ever seen. Keep in mind, this is right down the street from a homeless shelter with all kinds of interesting characters strolling by, AND it’s right across the street from an art center (with artists et al), but he sure was entertained by me.
Makes one wonder…
